In our opinion, the best way to find out what we do is to come for a free no obligation taster session! Parents are always welcome to stay and watch the music lessons.  Our tutor team are always on hand to discuss your child’s progress and advise anything they may wish to focus practising on. However here is some of the most  frequently asked questions below to help you understand how we work.

Q – How often are the sessions at the Sound Academy?
A – The sessions at the Sound Academy once a week.

Q – How long does each lesson last?
A – Each lesson is one hour long. It consists of a 45 minute learning period and a 15 minute ‘jam’.

Q – How often are the live concerts?
A – We do at least one live concert every year where the students perform in front of friends and family. This gives them vital ‘live’ playing experience. Plus we raise some money for a local charity!

Q – Where do The Sound Academy sessions take place?
A – The Sound Academy operates music lessons from Church Lane Community Centre in Lowton, Warrington. We have previously had successful schools in Wigan, Astley, Altrincham and Cheadle.

Q – What days/times are the sessions held?
A – We run on a saturday afternoon with hourly sessions between 12.30pm and 5.30pm.

Q – I can’t make that session – are there any others?

Please contact us – we are always open to running a session where there is demand.

Q – How do the lessons work?
A – Music lessons are held in a good sized room  and we work on a maximum two students to one tutor ratio. This allows the students to build their confidence in playing with other musicians and interact with others. However one to one music lessons are common.

Q – What instruments can my child learn?
A – We teach guitar lessons, drums lessons, bass guitar lessons and keyboard lessons.

Q – Will I need to buy an instrument?
A – No, not initially. We provide the instruments for the taster session and subject to availability your child can borrow a guitar for the first few weeks until they convince you that they really want one of their own!

Q – Is there a discount if I have more than one child?
A – Yes contact us and we will arrange a discount for a sibling.

Q – What age does my child have to be to attend?
A – We recommend that children be at least 7 years old to join.

Q – Do you teach children with special needs?
A – Yes, we welcome all children. We have experience of teaching children with varying special needs.  It’s not all about the music – it is social, confidence building and rewarding. All music lessons are tailored to the individual’s needs to ensure everyone has a good time.

Q – Are the tutors CRB checked?
A – All our tutors are fully trained and CRB checked.

Q – Who oversees the lessons?
A – All lessons are fully supervised by a dedicated manager, your point of contact.

Q – Can I try it out before I join?

A – Absolutely! The Sound Academy offers new potential students a free taster session. This is a full one hour session, and can be booked by filling in the taster form on this site. Parents are welcome to stay and sit and watch the music lessons in the seated area.

Q – What if my child has never played an instrument before?
A – Perfect – no bad habits! Our course materials and music lessons have been developed by fully qualified musicians. They have been designed to be friendly for students of all levels of ability, from beginners to advanced.

Q – How do I pay for the lessons?
A – Music lessons are normally purchased in advance on a monthly basis, and are paid for via standing order. However, if you start part-way through a month, then the school will request an initial part-payment via cash/cheque.

Q – Does The Sound Academy run every week?
A – The Sound Academy is not term-based and lessons continue throughout the year, apart from Christmas and New Year.

Q – Is there a fixed period that my child signs up for?

A – No, there is no fixed period, we just run month to month. We just ask for a months notice if you choose to leave for any reason.

Q – What happens if my child cannot attend some their music lessons?
A –  We appreciate the need for flexibility due to other activities, parties etc. so will happily provide the opportunity for the student to attend a ‘double lesson’ to make up for the time missed. We just ask that you let us know in advance where possible.

Q – What happens to my standing order when my child has left?
A – You have full control over your standing order payments and are responsible for stopping them when you leave the school. The school itself does not have the power to do this.

Q – How much does it cost?
A – The cost is £20 per weekly lesson.

Q – How soon can we book a free Taster session?

A -Right now! Just fill in the Taster request form and we’ll book you in as soon as possible!
